Redbird & Eagle Named Gallatin Players of the Year

The Harry Gallatin Players of the Year have been announced for RiverBend basketball.  The 2021 recipients are Alton senior Ja'Markus Gary for Male POY and Civic Memorial senior Tori Standefer for Female POY.   

Standefer averaged 15 ppg as well as 4.6 assists as the CM Lady Eagles finished with a mark of 16-and-1 this season.  She also averaged 4 rebounds and 4 steals per game.  Tori led the Eagles in free throw shooting at 85% (51-for-60).  

> Standefer is the 11th CM Eagle female POY winner in a row dating back to 2011.  That list includes Anna Hall (2), Kaylee Eaton, Allie Troeckler (3), Megan Trost (2), Megkinzie Carter, and Cassie Endicott.  

Gary averaged 18 ppg along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  He also led the Redbirds in free throw shooting at 72%.  He had a season high 32 points against Belleville West on March 3. 

> Gary becomes the 3rd Alton boys POY winner in the last five years - and 4th in the last 7 years.  That list includes Donovan Clay (2019), Maurice Edwards (2017), Darrius Edwards (2015).

The Gallatin awards began in 1946 under the direction of the Alton Exchange Club.  The awards cover the RiverBend schools - Alton, Marquette, CM, East Alton-Wood River, and Roxana.
